Petersfield Avenue - Harold HillS

Petersfield Avenue sometime in the 1950s

Mrs Munday:

'We didn't have shops, but we did have some shops at Petersfield Avenue. The stream that runs along there now didn't run along there now as it now runs over those big fields, and it had bushes with a big walnut tree.

When I first came we had to go over to Petersfield Avenue for shopping, and I got my feet stuck in the mud. I had come from London and was wearing high heels.

Anyway, I used to do my day shopping around the Co-op at Harold Wood and I pushed my children down there in my pram.

One thing we did have were cows that came down the street, and being from London it frightened me to death. I thought it was a rodeo going on. I used to go to Harold Wood for the coal merchant, and also there was a seed merchant for the rabbits food.'
