No shops. You used to have the van come round with vegetables. The greengrocer,
butcher, baker – he only had one arm after losing it during the war. There
used to be a shop up closer to Harold Wood and we’d fill a card
with what you wanted and he used to come and deliver it. To get to
the post office we had to go to Petersfield Avenue shops.'
