I moved to Harold Hill in l950 with my parents and two brothers. I was just two years old at the time. I attended Bosworth Infant and Junior School and then on to Quarles Secondary Modern for two years before going to Commercial College in Romford. I have some very fond memories of Harold Hill and growing up there. The area I lived in was Newbury Road as a child and then teenager. When I married I moved to Whitchurch Road, then on to Sevenoaks Close before returning to Newbury Road. I remeber as a child playing in Central Park, having picnics in the summer holidays. How about Pope's sweet shop at Hilldene. Mr Pope was a lovely man. I spent quite sometime as a teenager in the Alderman Public House in Chippenham Road. I have now moved on, remarried and living in the Midlands. I visit Harold Hill to see my mother who still lives in Newbury Road and I am so upset as to how the estate has become so dirty and run down. Hilldene Shopping area is disgusting, what happened it used to be such a good shopping area with clean pavements and no rubbish?! Boy am I glad I moved away. |
