I was an American by birth but grew up on Faringdon Avenue (1970 - 1975) with my grandparents where I attended Broadford Primary.

These were honestly the best days of my life. I remember being hoisted on top of my grandad's shoulders and taken from Farringdon Avenue all the way up hill to Hilldene. First, we used to go to the bottom to pay for the telly. Then back up to the Co-op for a few bits (and a few sweets, of course). There was also a curtain place that my mother frequented that was a lot of fun. Even then, we like a bit of fast food so we headed off to Cambourne for some fish and chips.

I remember frequently playing in a huge grassy circle (off of Kings Lynn Drive). We could run flat out and go crazy and never fear hurting ourselves or being heard when we screamed with delight.

And lastly, I remember going with my grandad down to a community center where ball dancing was held. He would turn on the microphone for me to sing while he waxed the floors.

I now live on Saint Simons Island in Georgia, USA but very much miss the good old simpler times.
