I lived with my mother Brenda and father James along with brothers Richard and Peter at 8 Swindon Close, Harold Hill from 1950 (weeks after my birth) until 1959 following the tragic and sudden death of dad when we were forced to leave. I have very happy memories of my time in Harold Hill. Walking down St Peters Avenue, Gooshays Drive - Mrs Nolan mums home help lived in Gooshays drive with her husband. Mrs Nolan helped mum and dad as they were both totally blind. I would really love to trace the photo taken by the Daily Mirror in 1957 showing us as a family holding hands and running down Swindon Close. I have the artice run by the Mirror telling how blind people managed to near sighted children as well as a picture of us kids standing with mum on the doorstep of 8 Swindon Close. The family picture of us running down Swindon Close holding hands. I would desperately love to get hold of as that is the only picture of us all that I am aware of is in existence - unless of course there are any in your archives. I remember Harold Hill very fondly and have visited several times over the years and would love to have the opportunity to look at any archives you might hold. I have published a book about the place where I now live containing the stories of over fifty people; had a thousand printed and 850 were sold in a matter of months. Recording history is so very important and I am delighted that you are doing somthing to preserve Harold Hill's life story. If I could help in any way then please contact me. |
